Whip Up These Spicy Broke Noodles for a Tasty Treat Under $3!

These spicy and umami-filled noodles, costing under $3, might just be your next comfort food! Despite having a handful of ingredients, it definitely won’t break the bank. The best part is it takes no more than 10 minutes to make — perfect for a quick lunch or dinner on a busy day.

INGREDIENTS FOR SPICY BROKE NOODLES

As the name suggests, you won’t be spending much on this — most ingredients are pantry or fridge staples you probably already have on hand. We’re using standard handmade noodles from the store, but you have the freedom to choose your preferred type of noodles. Perhaps, crinkly ramen from the little packages?

FOR THE SAUCE:

  • 2 tbsp chopped spring onions
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
  • 2 tsp chili oil/crisp (or adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 heaped tsp sugar
  • ¼ - ½ tsp mushroom stock, to taste (substitute with regular chicken stock or an extra splash of soy sauce)
  • ⅛ tsp ground pepper

FOR THE GARNISH:

  • Coriander (from sauce)
  • Spring onions (from sauce)
  • ½ tsp sesame seeds

You can control the spice level of your dish with the chili oil/crisp. If you’re a fan of spice, feel free to add more. But if you’re like me (I can’t handle too much spice), consider adding less.

When we say this recipe takes about 10 minutes (maybe less), we’re serious. You can whip this up for lunch or even for a late-night dinner, especially when you’re unsure what to cook.

DIRECTIONS:

Noodles

Boil your noodles in a pot according to the instructions on the package.

Sauce

While waiting for your noodles to boil, prepare your sauce. Combine all the sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix well until everything is evenly combined.

Serve

Strain the noodles, then place them in the bowl with the sauce. Mix thoroughly to ensure the noodles are evenly coated. Serve on a plate and top with the leftover spring onions and coriander from the sauce, along with some sesame seeds
